From a nun with a love for little lambs to an eccentric, Tarot-reading fortuneteller, soprano Camilla Shi is at the beginning of her exciting journey on the coveted stage. A current student in the MPD (Performance) program at the Vancouver Academy of Music, Camilla has performed with both the Academy, and with other esteemed groups such as The Opera Project (Resonance Concert Series), and Opera Mariposa (Suor Genovieffa, “Suor Angelica”). She has only recently become a member of The Postmodern Camerata, which she looks forward to singing many more concerts with.

Camilla’s love for singing started when cassettes were the popular method of distributing music. However, her introduction into Western Classical Music was through the cello, an instrument to which she has devoted many years of adolescence and love. In the end, the splendor and drama of opera was what truly captivated her, inspiring her to pursue post-secondary studies in voice and a career in singing.

After graduating in Music with Honors from Capilano University, Camilla has had the amazing privilege of studying with renowned Canadian soprano Heidi Klassen and Canadian tenor David Meek. She is now under the tender care of soprano Robyn Driedger-Klassen at the Academy. Some of Camilla’s other notable experiences include singing the role of a love-struck young man (Octavian, “Der Rosenkavalier”), and various soloist opportunities in the works of Mozart, Vivaldi, and Vaughan Williams.
